We know that there is a planned release of the Android 3.0 (gingerbread) hopefully before the end of the year. Apparently while some rumors have been saying that this new operating system will blow the socks off many people to be honest details have been very skeptical and difficult to come across on this.
But, today some details have emerged which come from Mobile-review.com’s Eldar Murtazin which are very interesting indeed.
Here’s a quick rundown of what we may expect
- Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
- Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
- New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
- Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery App on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
- Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2

Interesting news emerging today that T-Mobile in the United States have now sold one million Google Android cell phones. That’s a lot of phones to sell in this present economic climate for it’s also interesting to note that T-Mobile would not be one of the biggest network service providers in the United States.
Another interesting thing is that there 3G network is still in its infancy and they are still at the stage of growing and pushing this out for all of their users. There’s a lot of competition in the market today especially for a new operating system and competition from mobile phone manufacturers like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Blackberry to name a few is very strong.
T-Mobile are also up against some of the big carriers like AT&T and Verizon but congratulations must be given to them for their achievement. It will be interesting to see over the next year where this will go with other cell phone manufacturers of thing go with and live as their operating system.

T-Mobile in the UK have just released a list of the most popular and client applications that are being sold in the UK at the moment. It’s kind of an interesting list and it’s interesting to see what G1 users are actually downloading.
