KDDI Solar-Powered Phone

KDDI are Japan’s second largest mobile phone carrier. Today they have announced one of their latest phones that will launch in their summer lineup for the Japanese market.

As you can see from the picture this looks like an interesting phone. This device has yet to be named so we can’t tell you what it’s called. We believe it’s been developed in conjunction with the Sharp and it is waterproof and solar power. It was really only a matter of time before a cell phone hit the commercial market that will be powered by solar energy.

We believe that the phone will charge in 10 minutes and that there is no need for any adapters. Once it has been charged a call would last for one minutes – this is just on that quick 10 minute charge apparently it also comes with a conventional battery that can be charged via solar power to 80% of us leave this will take longer then the 10 minutes as just mentioned.

It’s expected that the phone will be on sale in Japan sometime in June 2009. It would be interesting if we begin to see more solar powered phones hit the market in the next couple of years. We know when it comes to phone technology that the Japanese are years ahead of the rest of the world. It would be really interesting to see this phone being tested for waterproof, how it performs on a network with signal performance checked. It would be nice to know if any network service providers plan to introduce this into the European or US markets.
