Betty Boop Phone Available in France

Posted on March 27, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

Samsung just keep rolling out new phones all the time and we now believe that the Samsung Betty Boop mobile phone is now available on the French network service provider “Bouygues Telecom”.

The phone is a limited-edition handset and comes with GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, VGA camera, slider form factor, colour display, FM radio, MP3 player, microSD expansion slot. I’m a little bit disappointed with the VGA camera as this is going back a few years.

The phone which offers up to three hours talk time is said to be selling for around €129 on pre-pay but if you decide to take out a contract all you need to do is pay a €1 fee for the phone.

At that sort of price it is almost a free phone but the problem is you are also signing up for the two-year contract.

AT&T Offering Free Blackberry Bolds

Posted on March 27, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

Do you remember a few months ago and Blackberry are having lots of software issues with the Bold? we had lots of reports of people returning these phones and either getting refunds or switching to a different model.

With so many returns it looks as if AT&T have decided to try and get their money back. They now have refurbished units on their website in the USA and as you can see from the picture they are saying today’s price is Free which is a saving of $550 – not bad deal if you ask me.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a refurbished phone the only issue with these phones was basically software rest of the functionality was absolutely perfect. The only commitment that AT&T require for your free mobile phone is that you sign up for a two-year contract. So if you’re looking for a phone to send e-mail that is a replacement for possibly an older model this is the deal of the week possibly even deal off the month.

Sony Ericsson Idou in Silver

Posted on March 27, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

We had a quick look at the and coming a Sony Ericsson Idou the other day which is said to be so here comes the next biggest phone to hit the market (when it arrives of course).

The phone is said to have a 12 megapixel camera and from what we believe will be running Windows mobile operating system. When we looked at this the other day pictures were only available in black. Pitchers are now emerging of the same phone in silver to be honest we are not sure if these are real or somebody has been playing a bit with Photoshop.

I guess as many new phones now come in a variety of colors this could be an option when it is released.

T-Mobile £60 ZTE TouchScreen Phone

Posted on March 27, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

We are led to believe that T-Mobile going to be selling the ZTE screen mobile phone.  This is a first for T-Mobile to start selling the Chinese manufacturers phones to phone calls the Vairy Touch is believed to be going on offer soon as it’s prepaid handset.

In terms of specifications it comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and an FM radio function, in addition to voice, SMS, MMS and multimedia entertainment features from really not sure what they mean by that.

According to Daniel Meredith from T-Mobile the “Vairy Touch, with its elegant mini PDA design, touch screen, and FM radio, is bringing a style and affordable pre-paid phones to our customers”

The Phone is expected to sell for around £60 for a prepaid phone. This will probably make it the cheapest touchscreen phone on the market and that type of pricing sure it is going to have amazing sales for both ZTE and T-Mobile this might be a good lesson for other manufacturers to start reducing pricing and start introducing advanced technology like touchscreens into the prepaid market lower costs for the consumer.

Sony Ericsson has Announced the T707

Posted on March 26, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

Sony Ericsson have today announced the T707 flip phone. The phone was launched today by Maria Sharapova who just happens to be Sony Ericsson’s brand ambassador.

The Phone will comes with a 2.2 inch TFT internal display with 240 x 320 pixels and 262K colours, Bluetooth, YouTube access, media player, FM radio, take 3.2 megapixel camera, memory card support up to 16GB.

This really looks like a nice phone as I haven’t seen many flip phones from Sony Ericsson, well known that come to mind straight away. With many manufacturers and people now concentrating on touchscreen phones this is a little bit different and I’m sure there will be a massive market for this.

As you can see from the images the phone comes in a variety of colors and I guess one for every member of the family. Anyway we have no pricing or no timeframe as to when this will be available it was launched in China a few weeks ago so maybe Sony Ericsson plan to keep this to hit Europe sometime later in the year.

Smartphone Platforms Emerge Unscathed

Posted on March 25, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

we looked at the Pwn2Own contest the other day and how the big 5 smartphone companies where offering $10,000 if somebody could crack their operating system. Well it seems that nobody got to claim the $10,000 that was on offer, thats kind of a little bit reassuring for all those cell phone users.

One of the interesting things that came out of the event is that bugs are still prevalent in some of the operating system is like Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile, iPhone and Blackberry. But according to the organizers some of these vulnerabilities are harder to exploit on some devices due to carrier variations.

Apparently one contestant is able to exploit the iPhone, but wasn’t willing to a deal as he wanted more then the $10,000 that was up for grabs. As we said the other day that on the black market some of these exploits could be worth up to $100,000 so I kind of understand where this guy is coming from.

Nokia 7205 Now Available on the Verizon Network

Posted on March 24, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

The Nokia 7205 Intrigue has been announced by Verizon wireless and is now available online to buy if you have been waiting on this it’s also available from stores. The phone comes in at $180 plus a two year contract plan.

When I first in this phone a while ago I was thinking that looked a bit strange but on reflection it is quite a nice looking phone and comes with a unique external display which kind of blend is into the black exterior. If you happen to get a phone call or a text message to display will then illuminate.

The sophisticated phone comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera with flash, the ability to upload photos to social network sites, VCAST, a 240 x 320 internal display and a largish 176×32 PMOLED external display.

One of my big gripe is nowadays is the likes of Verizon locking you into any contract for a cell phone for two years but they are not the only network that doing this and maybe it’s time that they start to look at the model that has been used in Ireland by some of the networks in terms of contracts. It would be nice if we got to the stage of getting free phones but I think we’re a long way from there.

Anyway the Nokia 7205 is a nice unique phone that maybe we will see launched in other parts of Europe soon.

Virgin Mobile Promises Touchscreen Mobiles

Posted on March 23, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

Virgin Mobile’s CEO Dan Schulman Speaking at the Dow Jones Wireless Innovations conference said as part of their move to smart phones that they plan to introduce touchscreen phones into their range.

It is a fairly interesting point because Virgin mobile really focus on low end phones for making calls and sending text messages. Their real focus is on younger people in the middle and low income bracket and moving into this smart phone cell phone market will be a bit of a shift in their focus.

As an MVNO their focus and core business is on prepaid market as he said already targeting younger people and students. According to reports in the economic downturn has benefited Virgin and that’s mainly because consumers do not want to sign any long-term contracts. Last year they also acquired Helio and since then has been offering more multimedia type phones and messaging centric handsets.

I particularly like versions mobile web section on the website where they cover what services they offer which is everything from Facebook, Bebo, Ringtones, Sports Updates which is the forefront of what most people seem to be looking for nowadays on a cell phone.

Nice Way to Make Some Money

Posted on March 19, 2009 by Colm2 Comments

I just came across this and it seems a nice way to make a little bit of money if this kind of thing you’re into. At the Pwn2Own contest at CanSecWest they are wanting a competition to test the security on mobile phone operating systems. The idea is to get some of the best in people to hack into any of the top five platforms namely Symbian, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, iPhone or Android.

Representatives from the companies are willing to pay up to $10,000 for rights to the code that has been used to gain access to the operating system. It will be interesting to see what these coders can come up with and if any of them really want to do this as apparently they can get up to $100,000 on the black market for similar information.  I’m sure these guys would find unlocking a phone childs play.

Sony Ericsson Idou Pictures

Posted on March 19, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

Some pictures have started to appear all of the Sony Ericsson Idou, the phone is said to be a 12 megapixel camera phone and from reading some of the reviews looks set to become a popular handset when finally released.

We believe that the handset may become available sometime in the third quarter of 2009 and I’m sure we will see plenty of review models and get more information on spec beforehand.

Unlike the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 phone which runs Windows Mobile the Idou is set to have a Symbian operating system which will be interesting to see how it works I’m especially interested in the touch screen features on Symbian.

We came across these images over at the over at the MobilMania.sk website. At the recent mobile world Congress show in Barcelona Sony Ericsson did not have this phone on location but we believe a number of journalists did get a private preview of the cellphone at some stage that’s how these pictures and now emerging.

Motorola i9 now on the Sprint Network in the US

Posted on March 19, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

The Motorola Stature i9 has now hit the US market and is available on the Sprint network for around $200 depending on contracts and all that sort of stuff. I particularly like the look of the i9 as it comes with a 3.1 megapixel camera, which incorporates an 8x zoom autofocus camera. The phone also comes with bluetooth, GPS, microSD and speakerphone. It also has a few more features and applications like games, wallpaper and ringtones.

I have a few friends that are big fans of Motorola I’m not a big fan of the menus on their phones but maybe I’ve just gotten used to Nokia and Sony Ericsson over the years but they find sending text messages to be realy easy. On a bit more off the technical side the i9 comes in at 4.7 ounces and is 4.1? x 2.1? x .59? in size.

Reading some of the fluffy marketing information we are told that the phone is “slim, stylish and fashionable” which in fairness it looks from the many photographs that I have seen.  As this is a flip phone it comes with a colorful external display so you can see you as a ringing without having to open a I kind of like this idea and have had it on the phones in the past and something that is really handy with these type of phones.  Battery life is said to last about three hours, hopefully it’s something we will see hitting the European market in the not too distant future.

Posted on March 16, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

It looks like Virgin Mobile USA are going to be selling the X-tc from Kyocera Wireless in the next few weeks. The phone comes with a QWERTY keypad that is just ideal for sending text messages and e-mails. It’s expected that the phone will sell for around $100 without having to have a contract which makes a little bit of a change from being tied in to 12 months or 18 months contract.

The phone is expected to hit stores in the US from the second week in April and features a 1.3 MP camera, with a large 2.4? TFT QVGA screen, Stereo Bluetooth® and Micro SD card slot for memory cards up to 8GB. It also comes with lots of other standard features that you find on most phones nowadays like Music Player , Predictive text, Web browsing capability  and support for SMS, MMS, photos and IM. reports so far have been positive and indicate that this is a really nice phone and will do well for Virgin mobile
