Windows 95 on a Nokia N82

Posted on February 28, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

Here’s something a little bit unusual it’s a Nokia N82 and it’s running Windows 95. The video below is a quick demo unfortunately there is no narration so there’s no explanation as to how well this is actually working on the N82.  In fairness is a little bit slow to load onto the mobile phone but it’s also a little bit of an achievement to get this working in the first place.

Tron – The Game Maybe on it Way to Mobiles

Posted on February 27, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

The 1982 science fiction classic Tron is getting a new lease of life in terms of a new sequel.  If you’re not as old as me you have no chance of remembering what this film was even a bit a quick trip over to Wikipedia will give you a really good update.

The reason I’m talking about this is that there will also be plans in the pipeline to release a mobile phone game to coincide with the release from Disney pictures. Most movies now once they go into production we are also seeing various gaming platform games coming on board, it’s of particular interest to the mobile games platform is now associated with these.  With the growth of mobile games expected to grow year on year it is understandable why this is the case.  I’m sure we will see this game available on the iPhone and plenty of other mobile platforms again its released in 2011.

Samsung Night Effect Mobile Phone Unboxing

Posted on February 23, 2009 by Colm1 Comment

Here’s a quick video of the Samsung Armani M7500 Night Effect. The phone comes with 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, stereo Bluetooth, 2.2-inch OLED display, brushed-metal casing, microSD card slot and FM radio, plus is only 12mm thin.

Where it’s supposed to really make a difference is at night as it features some LED lights on the side of the phone, the Samsung Mobile phone is a branded Giorgio Armani which will I’m sure will help with sales. When it comes to Samsung accessories there are a range I guess in the pipeline but the great thing is with all the new phones that comes with USB ports is that all the major brands are starting to standardize these.  Enjoy the video.

Kensington LiquidAUX iPhone car kit

Posted on February 23, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

The Kensington LiquidAUX Deluxe for iPhones kind of solves a few little problems it’s great that you can now have a cradle for your Apple iPhone, but of course this is more than just a cradle is also a hands-free car kit that plugs into your cigarette lighter.

I suppose this is really aimed at not just using it as a Bluetooth car kit you get the benefit of being able to play your iPod on your radio and not simply having a cable connected which the issue fiddling around trying to find your iPhone whilst driving.  This kind of solves the issue.

In terms of audio quality it connects via an absolutely input and it’s been reported that the sounds quality is extremely good.  The car kit is available now from Amazon and retails for somewhere in the region of €50.

HTC Make The Most Windows Mobile Handsets

Posted on February 21, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

HTC have only been in business about 11 or 12 years and it’s been revealed to him this week at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona and they ship about 80% of the Windows mobile phones globally.

The HTC phones announce this week are very high spec with touchscreen,  Wireless WiFi and lots of other cutting edge technology. Senior Vice President of Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business Andy Lees told the crowd that the company has sold 50 million Windows Mobile handsets worldwide. According to HTC data are saying that they sold 40 million handsets. It will be interesting to know how many people have HTC phones in particular countries to find out which is their best market.

Having 80% of the Windows mobile handset market is a great achievement, but the expected increase in smart phone sales in 2009 I would expect this number two on the rise.  Albeit they will have competition from the likes of the android operating system I still see it grow this year with HTC’s sales.

The Samsung Jitterbug Ideal for Elderly Users

Posted on February 21, 2009 by Colm3 Comments

This is the Samsung Jitterbug cell phone that has been designed particularly for elderly phone users. The phone is very simple to use as it comes with some unique features that are specifically aimed at the older user. When comparing this phone to others it has some very simple things indeed, dial tone, padded ear cup, operator assistance, and a simple yes/no interface.

The phone also comes with a voice dialing which is very handy for seniors is they cannot press the buttons on the phone itself. There are two versions of this phone boat with different keypads as you can see from the picture, the phone on the right comes with a simplified keypad with just a couple of options to call. The operator service is only available in the US and allows cellular phone users to make calls to the operator who can then transfer them to a particular number this saves the user having to remember numbers or trying to find them in a phone book on the phone that they may not be capable of using.

The phone also comes with an external volume/ringer control, external caller-ID display, and a silent vibrating alert option.  In terms of price it is not the cheapest prepaid cell phone on the markets and sells for around $149 in the US.  There obviously is a contract version of the phone available as well which allows you to have operator access for a monthly fee.

The Finnish company officially announced the Nokia 8202 today.  The phone looks to be a fairly stylish device and has some nice features to boost, the moment we will not be seeing this phone in Ireland it is aimed at the CDMA market, which is more likely in the U. In terms of size it measures 101×45.2×15.9 mm and has a weight of 126.3 grams. The Nokia phone is expected to hit the market this quarter so far we are not aware of the price or which networks may be selling it.

Save Money on Your next Phone and Calls

Posted on February 20, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

In the presence economic climate you can find you can get plenty of discount on phones from resellers and present.  There are also plenty of opportunities for small businesses to avail of these types of discount and to look at their phone plans to try and reduce costs.  Comparing phone prices and service is always a good idea to look at to make sure you are getting the best value for your money.

If you are looking to buy a phone in the next few weeks you may need to do some price comparison on the various network websites to check pricing before going into the store.  By doing so you can save money and also avail of any discounts that they may have in order to try and push sales this year.  If you are planning to do international travel you may want to check your roaming charges with your service provider before.

The video below is a really good demonstration of how tough the phone is if you have a few minutes have a look at the demo just to see what I’m talking about.

It will be great to see the Nokia N97 when it’s finally released. I think in terms of smartphones this will be one to watch out for.  The guys over at intomobile have and it’s time to play with this at the World Congress 2009 in Barcelona.

The phone is due to hit markets around the end of May possibly to and comes with a 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, dual LED flash, WiFi, GPS, 3.5 inch sexy touchscreen, full slide QWERTY and 32GB of storage.

As this is just a quick video overview of the N97 it those look like an impressive phone I particularly like the slide action which seems to be nice and smooth.  If you have a moment check out the video below. Enjoy!!

New Phones this Week

Posted on February 18, 2009 by ColmNo Comments

Mobile phone are literally changing on a daily basis that it’s hard to keep up with the latest technology and changes.  This week for example at the World Mobile Congress show in Barcelona all of the manufacturers like Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG and many others are displaying their range for 2009.

So far we have seen some nice brand new phones, which will lead us into issues toward the end of the year when do you start hitting the market as in which phone to choose.  The problem we have here in Ireland is that the network providers choose which muscles they would like to have so I’ll go for example LG say that they are going to produce 100 difference types of phones this year we will only see a very small fraction of these in Ireland.

Of course some of these phones will be aimed at the pre-pay phone market and some will be aimed at the compact phone market.  Sometimes you do get a crossover between the two where one of the networks would choose to have the phone available on contract and on prepay if you wish to have no contract plans. Some of the networds have reducted pricing on contracts so shop around for the best deals and maybe you’ll find a plan with no contract.

Some of the websites now available in the US you are able to reverse lookup cell phone number, I have not seen this service available yet in Ireland but it’s basically the directory inquiries on the way up most of the good services of course to charge a fee.

Watch out this week as we will of course be posting more and more phones as they are announced in Barcelona we hope over the next few days to have an overview of most phones from the leading phone manufacturers.
