The Chute eco-friendly smartphone
![]()
Bit of a strange one this the - it’s not a real phone only a concept right now but the design by Michael Laut will forgo all the usual metal, glass and plastic and the case will be made from Bamboo, yes that’s correct Bamboo.
Now I’m not really sure if the likes of Nokia and Sony Ericsson will go for this as theres lots of demand for shiny metal and glossy black mobiles at the moment - but maybe in the future we will see the Eco phone.
My only question is what will the screen be made from and will it work on solar power ?
Blackberry Pearl Diamond Edition
Amosu, who are well known for their extreme jewelry-editions of mobile phones have now unveiled the Blackberry Pearl Diamond Edition. The phone is encrusted with 900 diamonds.
Amosu’s handsets also come with a concierge service, allowing owners access to a higher class of events and services. Amosu says that all of the diamonds on the Blackberry are totally recyclable and reusable which is a good this because mobiles change all the time.
So what’s the price, at £45,000 or €60,000 it’s not cheap.
The TouchWiz User Interface from Samsung
We expect to see this this new touch screen interface on new Samsung phones this year
Sony Ericsson PSP Phone
Rumours fly around the Internet all the time, but this is one that might actually happen this year. If you just think about it mobile gaming is such a big market and one of the issues is using the key-pad on your mobile to control the game. Well Sony can easily solved this by replacing keys from the numeric keypad with game controls, and they have year of experience behind them in the area.
With a large library of PSP titles behind them this will explode onto the market with a backlog of games. Just on the techie side the phone will come with rotating display to access other functions of the phone. When the device is in the phone mode, you get a simple phone with numeric keypad, menu and function keys. Rotating the screen to 180 degrees, menu/function keys are turn into game controls for portable phone gaming. If the screen is turned only 90 degress, the PSP phone might turn into a mobile TV also?
Nokia E71 Picture
As we await the official announcement of this new phone some pictures of the E71 smartphone are starting to make an appearance on the web.
I can’t wait to see the full spec of this when it’s finally announced by Nokia.
Motorola shows off fuel cell powered phone
A Canadian firm have somehow integrated a hydrogen fuel cell into a Motorola phone which they claim will allow longer battery life and even better no emissions.
Vancouver-based Angstrom Power said its hydrogen-powered EverOn battery, which has been integrated into Motorola’s SLVR L7 handsets, is more efficient than lithium ion batteries and takes just 10 minutes to charge.
The company conducted a six-month trial of the product using its Micro Hydrogen product, which consists of a fuel cell and hydrogen storage tank, and claims it is now planning to commercialise the technology by 2010.
With the growth in smart phones and always on connectivity this is a solution that will have a positive impact on mobile phones in the next few years.
