The LED Mobile Phone

led-cellphone.jpgAll the major manufactures are just enamoured with touch sensitive mobile phones at the moment and along comes something so simple it just makes you wonder - The LED mobile may not be comparable to a high-end smartphone but we have to tell you everything about phones.

The phone from designer Tao Ma has no display or touch screen, just plain old LEDs. The LED patterns will govern you to the necessary functions like SMS, contacts, and one can even enjoy games on it.

The phones uses two AAA batteries No lithium ion. The incorporated standard USB interface can charge your AAA battery as well.

Lotus Notes on the way for iPhone

lotus-notes-and-iphone.jpgIt’s looks like Lotus Notes will soon be available for the iPhone, IBM (who own Lotus Notes) look like being the first official iPhone third party application to be available.

“we have a lot in common [with Apple]. We’re going to cross-pollinate.” Said IBM

It’s kind of an interesting development that will give would give the Mac platform a serious competitor to Microsoft Office and, in the case of the iPhone and I guess the iPod touch give it the productivity software all detractors claim currently prohibits it from being a true smartphone.

No formal announcement has been made about this by Apple yet but we await to see what happens.

Pink Nokia N95

pink-n95.jpgThe N95 is an impressive phone and now Nokia have release it in Pink we seen red the other week and of course it comes in Grey and Black. Just so you know the entire phone is not pink, but just the back panel and sides.

Is this the Samsung i900?

samsung-i900.jpgThe Samsung i900 looks similar to LG Prada or LG KS20 with it’s touchscreen. Rumour has it that the phone will be powered using Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and will come with 8GB storage space.

Not much information is available yet as to when this might be released.

iPhone 1.1.3 firmware now available with wiggles

iphonemaps.jpgNot really for us here in Ireland as we still await the iPhone but for other readers the firmware version 1.1.3 adds in a few nice new fun goodies into the iPhone mix. Most notably, the iPhone now comes with maps service which includes a WiFi triangulation, which is like GPS, though less accurate. Providing a general range of where you are located based on WiFi and GSM signals.

They have also made room for more icons, now allowing you to mix and match your main interface icons.

* Google Maps can now display the Hybrid map view
* You can now drag and drop application icons on your home screen

The Samsung F700 review

sam2.jpgThe Smasung F700 is a touchscreen phone with a slide out full QWERTY keyboard. it come with a 3MP Camera MP3-player and video player. Data input is done with fingers - no stylus ships with any of the new models. Nevertheless, there are two keyboard types available - a full-size on-screen QWERTY and an on-screen phone-esque keypad.

The F700 measures up at 104×50x16.4 mm which is about normal for a phone. The large screen provides up to 262k colours with a screen resolution of 420 x 240 pixels. The phone comes with something call VibeTonz technology which allows the user to actually feel the buttons with a responsive vibration.

Samsung is planning to roll out around five F700-esque devices in 2008

The New Motorola ROKR E8

motorola-rokr-e8-.jpgAnother new release form Motorola comes the ROKR E8, the phone has no physical keys and is completely smooth.

When the phone is powered off, the surface of ROKR E8 is smooth, and no visible keys. Once you power on the phone you basically get a virtual numbered keypad on the front surface. With one simple “press” of the virtual music key, the phone keypad disappears and control keys for the music player appear in its place.

The 2GB internal memory can store up to 1,500 songs and if you choose to use external memory this is expandable up to 4GB. With FM radio and a microUSB plug the phone is Linux-based and look really nice to boost.

The Motorola Z10 announced

moto-z10.jpgThe Z8 successor the Motorola Z10 was announced today at CES 2008 in Las Vegas. The mobile comes with some nice features like video editing tools with the ability to overlay text on the 30fps QVGA video you’ve shot and then adding a soundtrack from your device and if need you can then upload it to YouTube.

With stereo speakers to listen to your tunes, 3.2 megapixel Camera, memory is expandable up to 32 GB once that becomes available. Oh and I almost forgot the camera can take 3fps (frames per second) which is nice and quick for a phone..or is this a camera, anyway no word on pricing yet it’s expected to start shipping sometime this quarter 2008.

The Nokia N95 Bright Red

nokia-n95-red-hands-on-ces-2008.jpgNot a new phone I know, but a new colour for the Nokia N95. It’s looks really nice a different to the boring Grey and Black N95’s that everybody else has.

Anyway it’s expected to be released in the USA in the first quarter of 2008 with no information yet available for a European release.
