Nokia sells 400,000 phones in One Day

nokia_logo.gifThis is a bit hard to believe but Nokia have sold 400,000 mobile phone in one day in India, I’m sure Nokia Ireland would love to reach this in a month never mind one day. The company’s previous single day sales record was about one 100,000 phones. This is the kind of sales its competitors generally do over the entire year in India.

India recently celebrated its new year and this could explain the massive sales, most of the sales came from the entry-level low budget handsets, which Nokia did not want to get into initially due to the lower profit margins.

Nokia Aeon

aeon conceptThe Nokia research and development team have published some nice photos of a new concept phone, what looks really nice about this is the touchscreen that stretches over the full surface area of the phone. The question is will it make it into the mass consumer market?

It’s totally futuristic but kind of give us an idea what might be available in the not too distant future.

Samsung’s 10 megapixel SCH-B600 cameraphone

samsung sgh b600The Samsung SCH-B600 cameraphone has been announced with wait for it a 10 megapixel camera, a 10 megapixel camera alone is amazing but this is really the next step in a mobile phone. Samsung are calling it “the world’s first super camera phone,” It works just like a regular digital camera, too, with autofocus, a 2.2-inch 240×320 LCD display and video at 320×240 and 30fps. The bad news is that it will initially only be available in Korea for €750.

Specs are a little tin on the ground at the moment but it will have DMB mobile TV, MP3 player, business card reader, 3x optical zoom, LED autofocus, MMCmicro expansion, TV-out, and EV-DO.

As I’m not expert on cameras I’m not sure if 10 megapixel will make a big difference on a phone, in the camera world it’s all down to the lens which give you sharper picture with better contrast and color.

Sony Ericsson W810i

sony ericsson w810iThe Sony Ericsson W810i is now available from Carphone Warehouse on the Vodafone network, with a large 1.9-inch screen it has support for 256K colours and comes with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. The W810i comes in a glamorous black color rather than bright orange.

The phone has a FM stereo radio with RDS technology and the Media Player can play a variety of music files like MP3 and MPEG4.Packaged in the box you’ll find Disc2Phone 1.1 software which allows you to transfer songs from your PC to your handset.

On the camera side the w810i had an integrated 2.0 Megapixel camera with auto-focus so that you do not end up with lopsided or out-of-focus pictures (resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels).

Specifications:

* Network: GSM 850/900/1800/1900
* Messaging: SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messaging
* Standard battery, Li-Ion
* Stand-by Up to 350 h
* Talk time Up to 8 h

Overall this is an excellent phone, the lack of cover for the camera lens, which might get dirty and scratched pretty easily could be an issue for some people.

Nokia N75

nokia n75Nokia has announced the N75 mobile phone that we may see shipping towards the end of the year. The N75 is only the second straight clamshell N-Series handset from Nokia and looks to have some really nice features.

Features of the Nokia N75 include:

* Quad-band GSM + EDGE + WCDMA 850/1900
* QVGA screen with 16m colors
* 2-megapixel camera
* microSD card slot
* FM radio
* Stereo speakers
* Music player with support for MP3, M4A, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA

I think Nokia are trying to crack the US market (as they seem to like Clamshell phone) with this model, the RAZR has been Motorola’s best selling phone in the US and left Nokia a bit behind. The N75 is just 1.2mm thick keep an eye on this I’m sure Nokia will be rolling different Clamshell’s should this start selling in the US.
