Nokia and Motorola have agreed to work together to promote mobile tv standard DVB-H. At the moment there are a number of comperting mobile TV techologies and nobody knows whos going to win, but with the new Nokia and Motorola are going to cooperate together DVB-H may become a standard.
DVB-H is thought by many industry watchers to be the eventual winner in the standards war - this is also a prediction which will likely be given more weight in light of today’s announcement. According to research company Informa more than 50 million DVB-H devices will be sold in 2010.
Nokia To Start Naming Phones
Nokia are going to follow all the other mobile phone manufacturers like LG, Motorola and Samsung and start given their phones names instead of numbers. So no more Nokia E61, Nokia N93, Nokia 6234. Is it really just a marketing plot or as analysts have put it that consumers have a hard time recalling model numbers but have no trouble remembering iconic names like RAZR or Chocolate.
“What you will see coming from us in the future is not just a numbering system, you are going to start to see names that carry a meaning and are important to consumers,” Keith Pardy, head of marketing at Nokia.
Pardy also said they have been slow to introduce a thinner phone model
“We have been slow on the uptake. We are not happy that we are late with that, but we are working on it. But at the same time you have to be looking at what’s next,”
So maybe something to look out for over the coming months to see can they take on the like of LG and Motorola in the naming front
